Pole Production – Production Chain
Debarking
The poles are debarked and sorted at our production plant using laser technology according to different standards and customer specifications. The bark is used as an energy source in our bio power plant.
Drying
Traditionally poles were dried outdoors in open stacks, when the air flowing freely between the poles dried the poles during a period of 8-10 months. Today the poles can also be dried in our vacuum chambers, warm-air kilns or high temperature kilns where the freshly felled poles dry ready for impregnation in 7-10 days.
Peeling / Dressing
The wood is peeled to remove the inner bark in order to make the surface smooth and even. The chips are used as an energy source in our bio power plant.
Fabrication
At this stage the pole is checked for dimensions, moisture content and quality. Marking, drilling and any other fabrication required by the customer are also performed at this time.
Impregnation
Creosote impregnation
Creosote impregnation is made using the traditional Rüping process. During our new creosote impregnation process the poles are pre-heated to the temperature of 50 - 70°C before impregnation. After the impregnation any bleeding from the poles is prevented during post-processing which is performed using hot steam and vacuum.
The creosote impregnated pole is our primary export product. Creosote is distilled from coal tar and has been used as preservative for more than 150 years. Creosote impregnated poles provide the longest service life possible in the most demanding of conditions. The creosote oils we use in our production meet the following standards:
- WEI Type B
- WEI Type C
Salt impregnation
Our other impregnation method is copper-salt impregnation. In this process, the active ingredient in the impregnation material is copper (CuO). The impregnation is performed using the Bethell process. Our company is authorised to use NTR A and NTR AB class quality marks
